iPhone Photo Shoot with Valerie Mya

Posted by: Wil Fernandez    Tags:  experiments, iphone, mobile, models, technology    Posted date:  September 6, 2011  |  6 Comments

I’ve been experimenting with my iPhone camera and handful of apps over the past few months. It’s really convenient to have a camera in my pocket all the time, but even more convenient to be able to process and upload the photos in real time.  Most of the things that I find myself photographing with my iPhone are still…landscapes, objects, signs. The main reasons that photographing people or anything moving with an iPhone is tough is inability to control the shutter speed and the relatively long delay when pressing the shutter button.

I figured it was worth experimenting a bit with actually photographing people with the iPhone and knew that my friend Valerie Mya would just love to spend the afternoon with an iPhone pointed at her on the beach. I have to admit, it felt rather awkward holding up the little object and looking at a screen while I gave her direction; something nice about an SLR viewfinder. Another thing that we both noticed afterward was how the lens somewhat distorted things. Our word of the day was “elongated”.

Here are a few images from our iPhone photo shoot that afternoon, directly from the iPhone using the Camera+ app. What do you think?

Thanks, Nicholas! This was a lot of fun. Looking forward to picking up the new iPhone 4S (better camera) soon!

The 4S has a great camera!  I have a 3G (ancient I know) and its camera is tragic!  Can’t wait to upgrade in February!

The 4S will really blow you away.  I have had each of the iPhones and gradually gotten happier and happier with the camera.  With the 4S I am sometimes able to grab better images than my Canon point and shoot, and as you mentioned, being able to edit, filter, and post directly to the web makes those captured on the iphone that much more personal.

Hey Damien – you weren’t kidding, just upgraded and the 4S camera is totally up to par with my other point and shoot cameras!
