Great Google+ Chrome Extensions and Google+ Tips for Photographers

Posted by: Wil Fernandez    Tags:      Posted date:  August 19, 2011  |  No comment

I recently jumped on the Google+ bandwagon and started posting some of my photos there. With this new social network, I tried something a little different; categorizing my photos by the device that I was using to capture them. So you’ll find many of my images on Google+ categorized as:

  • mobile phone photos
  • manual compact digital camera photos
  • digital SLR photos
  • vintage camera photos

I might use the same categorization for my PhotoShelter integration, which I’ve been struggling with for awhile. While this categorization might not work for most photographers, I think it may work for someone like me that shoots with a wide variety of devices.

As I was playing around with this categorization, I found that it is very easy to switch to Google’s Picassa photo editor (upper left navigation) and re-organize the photos within and between albums.  Unfortunately, if you move a photo from one album to another, you loose any conversations (comments) or +1′s that the image had. Learned that one the hard way.  :(

I’ve been posting on Google+ once a day now – usually finding a great amount of inspiration in other photographers images on Google+. One thing that the new social network has going for it is a very minimalist design and many ways to elegantly display photos in higher definition.

Specifically, I found a few Google+ Chrome browser extensions that I really liked for glancing through the stream of images coming from my “Photographers” circle. +Photo Zoom by Sebastian Mauer allows you to hover over any image you on Google+ and zoom in. Highly recommended for anyone that gets inspiration from other images.

Another great Google+ Chrome extension for people that like to browse and comment on a stream of photos is G+ Stream Pause. Seems like a feature that Google would have put into Google+, but leave it to outside developers to pick up the slack (before Google eats their lunch by adding it later).

Have you found (and vetted) a great Google+ Chrome Extension for photographers?
