I began my extended road trip across the continental United States back in February 2010. Originally it was going to be a 12 month journey, but has since extended into more of a mobile lifestyle with no end in sight.

About 2 months into my trip, as I was packing up my RV to leave Houston and head for New Orleans, I met an older gentleman who was sitting by the lake on a picnic table nearby. We got to talking a bit – mostly about how much we love the RV lifestyle – and I was saddened to hear that his reason for being in Houston was not for pleasure. He was in the late stages of battling cancer and didn’t have much hope of survival. He went on to tell me that this was his first RV and while he liked it very much, he wished he had time left on earth to shop around and get another – now that he knows what he likes.

After having most of my friends and business colleagues tell me I was crazy for selling my possessions and hitting the road, Al was one of the first people to encourage me and give me some words of wisdom.

I’m extremely saddened having just found out that Al died about 8 months after he let me film this video. While it might be trivial to some, for me, it has fueled my spirit for exploration of all the things that I want to see and do…NOW.
