Travel Plans through Fall-Winter 2009

Posted by: Wil Fernandez    Tags:      Posted date:  September 7, 2009  |  5 Comments

I’ve been pretty busy this year; with lots of plates spinning, as usual. I’m starting on a few photo projects, including the development of my stock library and experimenting with vintage photography cameras, lenses and emulators, including my Polaroid 350 Land Camera. Here are some of my upcoming travel highlights for 2009. As always, if you have any personal experience and can offer any tips or suggestions, I’m all ears!

  • Santa Barbara County, CA – September 11-13
  • Bangkok/Phuket – September 18-29
  • Austin, TX (Austin City Limits) -October 1-5
  • NYC/NJ – October 7-12
  • Indio, CA (Phish Festival 8) – October 29-November 2
  • Philadelphia/Poconos, PA -November 24 – 30
  • TBD (Kauai?) -December 23 – January 4

I’ve been thinking about you lately. We haven’t seen you in so long. Hopefully we can get together when you come out in Oct. We will be having a Halloweeen party, but on the 31st.
glad to hear from you though.Touch base when you can.

Take that question mark off Kauai and get out there. Julia and I went in 2008 and it was an amazing island. Not very ‘popular’ – so plenty of empty beaches and hiking trails. Make sure to walk the Na Pali Coastline.

Indio is within striking distance of Salvation Mountain, a fascinating, ever-changing, visually striking work of art built by Leonard Knight. If you’ve never been, worth going. If you’re lucky Leonard will be in the mood to come out of his trailer and talk. Just Google “Salvation Mountain” for deets. I wish I could tell you how to get to the tire city, which is even deeper into the desert, but I can’t. When me and a bud went looking for it to document, it took us three hours of wandering while hoping we weren’t going to die in the absolute middle of nowhere. When we finally found it it was astonishing.
